A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle

… Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose …

That sounds like a far fetched job, right?  Well, according to Eckhart Tolle, it is a task (and even a responsibility) that everyone on this planet is capable of achieving.

May I begin by saying that I whole-heartedly concur?

Whole-heartedly concur.

(Lol.  I think its funny I just used the word “concur.” Twice.)

There have been studies that show there is a direct link with finding one’s purpose and a high level of happiness (or at least satisfaction). If you don’t believe me, check out this article in The Chicago Tribune or this post from Psychology Today or these thoughts from ActionforHappiness.org.

Finding your life’s purpose will most likely bring you great happiness (and joy).

So, if that doesn’t convince you to read this book, then I quit.  Just kidding.  Here are three more reasons:

1. Because Oprah said so.

No really.  She and Eckhart Tolle partnered together for a 10-Part TV series that went over each chapter of the book individually.  If Oprah is willing to spend her limited time and (unlimited) resources drawing an audience to these concepts–you better believe they are worth paying attention to!

2. Because I have seen the transformation in my own life and in the lives of my friends and family who have read it.

First of all, if you have absolutely no inkling to read this book, then you are probably not ready to receive the wisdom that it holds.  This is one of those books you can’t just read, you have to ABSORB it, and if you are not in that headspace to do so, don’t waste your time.  It won’t stick–and we need it to stick, so read it when you are ready.  For those of you that ARE drawn to it at this point in your life–you are drawn to it for a reason.  No doubt.  SO READ IT!  I have found my perspective on life has changed so dramatically that I feel I hardly recognize the person I was several years ago.

  • I feel more conscious.
  • I feel more acutely aware of my ego.
  • I know what my “pain body” is and when I am acting out of it.  (Wanna know what a “pain body” is? … Read the book.)
  • I feel free from negative thinking because I am aware of how it creeps in.
  • I feel like I am increasingly aware of who I am and who I want to be in the future.  One day at a time…
  • I know how to make room for “inner space”- meaning, I know better how to deal with difficult circumstances and how to be more present in everyday life.
  • I also feel as though I have a MUCH more thorough understanding of my personal purpose on this precious earth.

3. Because if humanity understood these concepts and put them into practice, we could live in a world where peace actually exists.

Think about it… Mentally healthy and happy people do not hurt other people.  Generally speaking, they go out of their way to help other people.  If each of us recognized the humanity in each other, it would be very hard for violence to exist.  If our leaders led out of their purpose rather than their egos, this world would be a markedly different place.  But before I get too grandiose with my ideals, let me remind you that:

It starts with me.

It starts with you.

It starts with us.

Wanna start a movement together?  I do.  One where we create Heaven on Earth?  I’m in.  Call me crazy, but I believe its entirely possible.  It starts with “the (wo)man in the mirror,” but fortunately, there are a lot of mirrors on this planet–so there are endless possibilities for humanity to awaken.  (Shoot, I have several mirrors if anyone needs to borrow one!)

Here is what Amazon.com has to say about the book:

With his bestselling spiritual guide The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle inspired millions of readers to discover the freedom and joy of a life lived “in the now.” In A New Earth, Tolle expands on these powerful ideas to show how transcending our ego-based state of consciousness is not only essential to personal happiness, but also the key to ending conflict and suffering throughout the world. Tolle describes how our attachment to the ego creates the dysfunction that leads to anger, jealousy, and unhappiness, and shows readers how to awaken to a new state of consciousness and follow the path to a truly fulfilling existence.

The Power of Now was a question-and-answer handbook. A New Earth has been written as a traditional narrative, offering anecdotes and philosophies in a way that is accessible to all. Illuminating, enlightening, and uplifting, A New Earth is a profoundly spiritual manifesto for a better way of life—and for building a better world.

You can purchase it here on Amazon.com or here directly from Eckhart Tolle’s website.

  1. Thank you, Jaclyn. I’ve read “A New Earth” twice, and skimmed it several other times. It helps dispel the “illusory self” and point to our true identity. I agree with you that the concepts Tolle expresses can lead to living in peace. I’m encouraged that such an understanding of reality seems to be becoming more widespread in our society, and I appreciate your part in this!

  2. Hey Jaclyn, this is a great book. Have done study group with it and it is a book you can read over and over again and go deeper each time! Thank you for encouraging others to journey and step out of the same old box we sometimes live in. It takes great courage to, as you say, look in the mirror at one’s self. Keep the love going!
