How do you know if you're stressed? Is this a dum How do you know if you're stressed? Is this a dumb question? I'm spilling some tea right here. This is NOT a dumb question. Recently, I've been SUPER focused on taking back the reigns of my life. The beauty of my Hashimoto's diagnosis last August is that it's forced me to make some big changes because my health LITERALLY depends on it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I started with getting on the right medication dosage, then focused on dietary changes, and then stress management. I probably should've STARTED with stress management. Here's why:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I was so stressed all the time that I didn't know what not being stressed felt like.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That's why last week I shared a post on lowering cortisol because stress causes cortisol spikes.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So here's the tea and these things are KEY if you want to lower your stress/take your life back:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💙 put your phone away (I do no phone after 7PM, and I also keep my phone in my purse for the majority of the work day). The phone is constant stimulation and constant cortisol spikes for me.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💙 prioritizing your dreams. Creating space and taking action on what I want to accomplish FIRST rather then tending to everyone and their needs and THEN doing what I need to do.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💙 take f-ing care of yourself. Sleep. Rest. Time for books and just f-ing thinking.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💙 boundaries... with literally everyone. What do I need today to be healthy and move my dreams forward? ... if you don't fit into that, I love you, but I'm worthy of my focus and attention.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💙 morning meditation⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💙 mindful eating/not multi-tasking⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💙 time spent doing things that fill me up - like spending quality time with my man.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For years, I had this list flipped upside down. I was my priority only after I had made everyone else my priority.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🦋Success/progress/healing requires boundaries and stress management. Your thoughts?🦋
Want a super quick tip for getting over the obstac Want a super quick tip for getting over the obstacles you face every day?

Be the super hero of your own life.

I got this idea from Andrée Werner, co-founder of Ryze Superfoods, Harvard AND Julliard grad, and… my latest podcast guest. This brilliant woman and her business partner, Rashad, launched their signature mushroom superfood coffee (which you have heard me mention repeatedly because I love it) in the midst of a pandemic and they are KILLING IT.

As with all entrepreneurial adventures, this ish is hard, but Andrée and Rashad approach obstacles armed with the best question ever: what would a super hero do right now?

And the answer? It’s ALWAYS “figure it out.”

And really, isn’t that what life is all about? Being resourceful and resilient and responsible for our own destinies?

I love this lady and her story and this company that she helped create called @ryzesuperfoods. This episode is an interesting listen if you’re into health and entrepreneurship. AND if you want to try their INCREDIBLE superfood-packed mushroom coffee, visit the link in their bio and use code: JACLYN at checkout for 15% off your order.

Have you guys tried mushroom coffee yet? I’m obsessed. My husband is on it. My mom is on it. Several of my friends are on board. I think it’s the wave of the less caffeinated, more calm future.
Wow. Do I have a game changer for you... it has t Wow. Do I have a game changer for you... it has the ability to change your entire day, week, month, year... (tips below)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You know what it is? Lowering your cortisol level. Obviously, I'm not an MD, however, as someone with Hashimoto's (an autoimmune disorder often triggered by stress), lowering my cortisol is revolutionizing how I feel on a daily basis.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
First, cortisol is your primary stress hormone. It's vital to our health, however, over time, chronic stress and too much cortisol contributes to a host of problems like adrenal fatigue, insulin resistance (stubborn belly fat), and hormone imbalances (like Hashimoto's and hypothyroidism).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yikes.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So what do we do to combat chronic rushes of cortisol into our systems? Honestly, I don't think it has to be that complex. These are a few things I'm hearing about/doing myself:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➕ leaving my phone on silent so I'm not startled when it rings which causes a spike of adrenaline and then cortisol⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➕ SLEEP⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➕ getting an alarm clock that wakes you with light instead of sound⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➕ low impact workouts that don't spike adrenaline (that then requires cortisol to correct)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➕ time spent outside without a phone⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➕ no phone past 7 PM⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➕ mindful resting that doesn't include a bunch of stimulation⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➕ mindful eating (no loud noises, screens, stimulation)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➕ less caffeine⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➕ calming activities sprinkled in the day (15 min of reading, some breath work, essential oil break, etc.) to reset your system⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
📱 My biggest tip out of all of these is to put your phone away. I'm doing this on the daily, but Sundays - I want to be as off grid as possible.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🧘‍♀️ I'm resting like my life depends on it... and honestly, the quality of it does.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

"If you don't own it, who will?" That's what Tara "If you don't own it, who will?"

That's what Tara Cohen of @imaylabeauty shared with me last week after I asked her why individualism is so important.

And she's right.  Who will bring what you bring to the table the way that you do it?  No one.

We all have fear.  We all have self doubt.  We all have insecurities.  But you know who has power over those feelings?  You.  Me.  Us.  We can choose not to let them sit on the throne of our lives.

It's time, dear ones, it's time.  No more hiding our gifts in fear.  The world needs, your community needs, I need... that special gift that you, and only you, have to offer.

Who inspires you to think big?  Drop them or tag them below.  Let's get an empowerment train going here!  My convo with Tara Cohen from @imaylabeauty last week made me think REAL BIG.

I've been living in Arizona since November 1st of I've been living in Arizona since November 1st of last year and I've realized something: nature changes everything.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The weather and the terrain here make it impossible not to want to be outside all the time. Nature connects, it grounds, it makes me feel like my mind is back in my body (cue Maggie Roger's song "Back in My Body" 😉).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This mind body connection is something I talked extensively about with @chaselifewithkelly in today's episode of Self Discovery.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In addition, we chatted about:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💜 her experience being on @netflix 's @loveisblind⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💜 the pitfalls of reality stardom⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💜 spoiler: why she chose not to get married on the show⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💜 the vital importance of mindset⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💜 boundaries in relationships⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💜 owning our self worth⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

@chaselifewithkelly is refreshingly honest and super candid about her life experience. If you are someone looking to hit the reset button in life and love, then this episode will be of value to you. Link in bio and in my stories.
"Take gentle care of yourself." - This is my mantr "Take gentle care of yourself." - This is my mantra as I walk into this week with my gorgeous @parkerclayintl bag. I've had a hard go of it the last 2 weeks with my Hashimoto's. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In sum, getting the right level of thyroid medication has been an art, not a science. My doctor increased my dose just a little and I've been feeling like I've had 8 cups of coffee every day for the last week. Jitters, weight loss, can't fall asleep, etc. TOO MUCH. Now I'm back to the dosage I was on and my body is tired and begging for a little rest after feeling like it's been on a roller coaster.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Good news is, I will be a-okay. And there is no bad news, really, just a very clear message that I need to be more gentle on my body as it comes back into homeostasis.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A few things I'm doing to come back into balance:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✌🏼 actually letting myself sleep past 6 AM without guilt. My body is begging for rest. BEGGING. And ignoring those signals is what got me diagnosed with Hashimoto's in the first place.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✌🏼 carrying my essential oils with me in this sweet Eden Carryall. I use them as a smoker would a "smoke break." LOL. Just to chill out for a second and relax.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✌🏼 being super gentle with my self-talk. I normally beat myself up for not being super productive, but I'm learning to respect my body in a whole new way. It's telling me what it needs, and I'm trying to respect it. I haven't really done that. Ever.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✌🏼Switching up my diet (again)... more on that to come. 🥴⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🧐 Ladies, how do you deal with health set backs? What do you do to reset? I need all the tips. Let's lift each other up!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

📝 We are not meant to play small. However, we 📝 We are not meant to play small. However, we don't just wake up one day ready to play big - we grow into it - challenge by challenge.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In a world where we have immediate access to pretty much everything - materialistic, informational, technological, etc. it can be really hard to cultivate the inner fortitude required for growth. Everything else comes so easily. We need that palpable, but undefinable strength to keep moving forward though. - That strength that not only overcomes challenges, but embraces them for the lessons that lie within.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here are a couple things I'm working on rn to get better at this:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🖊 Changing my perspective around challenge. How can I lean in? How can I shift my vantage point to my advantage? How can I hold to Ryan Holiday's adage: the obstacle is the way?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🖊 What beliefs do I have around this challenge? Am I coming at it from a place of not feeling like I am enough? Or am I coming at it from a place of strength, ex: This is difficult, but I have what it takes to overcome.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🖊 What can I do today to move the needle forward? Is it filling up my own tank so I can fill others? Is it finally finishing that webpage that I've been putting off? Is it scheduling that appointment with the financial advisor to make a plan to get out of debt? What can I do now to make progress so I can alleviate some anxiety?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We all want ease, and I understand that, but what if obstacles really are there FOR us? To teach, to expand, to raise our vibration to that next level of who we are capable of becoming?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because so much is available to us so easily and quickly, we tend to give up far too soon on the things that really matter in life. But we are worthy of more. We are worthy and capable of the challenges in our path.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narr “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.” ― Mark Twain
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
... Because travel helps us realize we are all so much more alike than we are different. When we look into each other’s eyes, our own humanity becomes glaringly apparent.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I know most of cannot do any big traveling right now, however, we can make an adventure out of our lives, AND we can prime the soil for adventures to come.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A few ideas to invite a sense of wonder:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
+ buy a travel book about a place you’ve always wanted to go.
+ make a list of what you will bring with you. (My @parkerclayintl Merkato bag is the perfect catch all for a fun day trip - I’ve also traveled across the country with it and it comes in SUPER handy at the airport when you look down and go - where do I put my water bottle, breakfast sammy, and book?!?!) code: PC-JACLYN20 for 20% off. (Also, check out the company’s mission to uplift women out of exploitation in Ethiopia. Your dollars = dignified employment).
+ wear an outfit instead of sweats. I know. The horror of my suggestion... but putting on my normal clothes makes me feel more prepped to think big.
+ opening a savings account like Qapital that rounds up to the nearest dollar on all your purchases and helps you mindlessly save for adventures. I just looked and I have an extra $70 in my adventure account!
+ order take out from, or if you feel comfortable, go to a restaurant with the cuisine of the place you want to adventure to.
+ watch a movie or documentary about that place.
+ invite hope in. I do not believe we will always be restricted like we are now. But let’s not waste our beautiful lives in the wait. We can pour adventure in even when we can’t quite adventure out.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✈️ Where do you want to go when it’s safe to do so?!?!? Let’s make an adventure list!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
